Amazon hair dryer that rivals Dyson and promises salon-quality locks (2025)

As a city girl who's always on the go, I'm constantly on the lookout for tools that can help me style my hair quickly and easily. With my long, naturally straight locks, I need a dryer that can deliver sleek results without taking up too much of my time.

So when I noticed the HappyGoo Hair Dryer (£34.99, down from £69.99) consistently topping Amazon's bestseller lists and boasting nearly 2,500 five-star reviews, I was intrigued to see if it could live up to its reputation. This clever device is designed to style and dry hair swiftly, featuring ionic technology that helps reduce frizz and static, promising a salon-quality finish every time.

It also bears an uncanny resemblance to the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer, renowned for its sleek, futuristic design. Naturally, I was thrilled when it arrived at my doorstep - even my short-haired mum couldn't resist giving it a whirl to test its versatility.

Could this beauty tool work for us and integrate seamlessly into our hectic schedules? Keep reading to find out.

My honest review of the Happy Goo Hair Dryer

Aesthetically, it could easily be mistaken for the Super Sonic - it's sleek, compact, and sports a similar circular head, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The HappyGoo hair dryer is also incredibly lightweight - lighter than any other dryer I've used before - meaning I didn't experience any wrist discomfort while manoeuvring it around my head.

The hairdryer boasts three heat settings - cold, warm and hot - along with two fan speeds, which proved useful depending on my hairstyling needs. It also features a cold blast function, perfect for setting my style in place.

Initially, I was sceptical about the highest heat setting not being hot enough, fearing it might take too long to dry my entire head. However, it was sufficiently warm to dry my long hair in under five minutes, thanks to its potent 2000W motor.

It also quickly dried my mum's short hair without causing any frizz. The built-in ionisation feature intrigued me, promising to leave hair smooth, soft and shiny. To my surprise, it delivered - after using it, my hair looked as if I'd just stepped out of a salon or used my reliable ghds.

The dryer comes with three attachments: two concentrator nozzles for precision styling and a diffuser for adding volume and defining natural curls. As neither my mum nor I have curly hair, we didn't find much use for the diffuser, but the concentrator nozzles were excellent.

They allowed me to target specific areas and comb through my hair as I dried it, resulting in a smooth, poker-straight finish.

Similarly, once dry, my mum's hair appeared straight and healthy, requiring little additional styling. This saved us time and eliminated the need for hair straighteners or tongs, giving our hair a break from high heat. Even better, our hairstyles lasted until the end of the day.

Despite the effectiveness of the attachments, my mum and I found them a bit tricky to use. They securely fasten to the hair dryer's head but are angled in such a way that you have to twist your wrist to use them, which felt unnatural and took some getting used to when styling.

Aside from this, I'm quite pleased with this handy hair dryer. It delivers sleek results with minimal effort, which is exactly what I need in the morning when I don't have time to fuss - and at just £34.99 in the sale, it's a great price.

The HappyGoo Hair Dryer can be purchased on Amazon here. If you want to splurge, you could opt for the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer, which sells for £329.99.

Alternatively, if you're looking for something more affordable, Argos has lowered the price of this Remington D5220 Pro Air Turbo Hair Dryer to £26. Remington's Sapphire Luxe Hair Dryer has also been reduced from £30 to £35.
