The 2024 season marks the 56th year of App State Field Hockey in the High Country and the Mountaineers are set to play nine games at Dr. Jan C. Watson Field at Brandon & Erica M. Adco*ck Field Hockey Complex, including two nonconference bouts against ACC opponents and four league games against MAC foes.

The Mountaineers enter the 2024 season as the reigning regular-season MAC champions, the program’s first MAC title since joining the league in 2017. App State won six MAC games a season ago and toppled No. 8 Louisville for the program’s first win against a top-10 opponent. The Mountaineers’ 28 wins over the past two seasons are the most over a two-year stretch in program history.

Dinsmore’s squad returns each of its top six goal scorers from a season ago and nine players who started at least 10 games. App State finished second in the MAC in goals scored in 2023 with 44 and second in goals allowed with 30. Additionally, the Mountaineers will welcome a talented group of newcomers to the High Country that the team is excited to see in the Black and Gold.

App State is set to open the season with two home games against Towson (Aug. 30) and Georgetown (Sept. 1), two teams the Mountaineers bested a season ago on the road. Then, the team will hit the road to Virginia for two contests against Richmond (Sept. 6) and VCU (Sept. 8) to open the road schedule. The Mountaineers haven’t played against VCU since 2017 and Richmond since 2015.

Returning home, the Mountaineers will welcome Wake Forest to Boone on Sept. 13, marking the first time since 2022 that the Demon Deacons will play in Boone. After that, the Mountaineers will hit the road to Davidson on Sept. 15 before trekking to Ohio to open MAC play on Sept. 20.

Following a bye week, App State is set to host its first two conference home games of the season on Sept. 27 and 29, taking on Bellarmine and Central Michigan.

The Mountaineers will then start a three-game road trip, the longest of the season, at Kent State in what will be a rematch of the MAC Tournament semifinals from 2023. The two teams split the series a year ago, with the Mountaineers claiming a shootout win at home last year. Then, App State will head to Lynchburg, Va., for a bout with the reigning Big East champ Liberty before traveling to six-time defending MAC Tournament champion Miami on Oct. 11.

Concluding its three-game road trip, App State will return home to host the North Carolina Tar Heels on Oct. 13 and Ball State on Oct. 18, which will serve as the team’s senior day. UNC’s visit to Boone will mark the first time App State has hosted the Tar Heels since 2019.

After a bye, the Mountaineers are set to wrap up their three-game home stand with Longwood on Oct. 25 before heading to Norfolk, Va., for a bout with ODU on Oct. 27th, marking the first meeting between the two teams ever.

Heading into November, App State is set to wrap up its home schedule against Queens on Nov. 1 before concluding the regular season schedule at James Madison Nov. 3. App State’s contest at James Madison will be the first matchup between the two teams as conference opponents as JMU is set to join the MAC as an affiliate member for field hockey this season.

The MAC Tournament is set to take place from Nov. 6-9 in Oxford, Ohio.

Fans will have two opportunities to see the Mountaineers in action before regular season play as App State will play exhibition games on Aug. 20 and Aug. 24. Coach Dinsmore’s squad will head to Wake Forest on Aug. 20 before hosting Liberty on Aug. 24 to wrap up preseason play.
