The purpose of this guide is to explain the basics of the New Genesis’ new multi-weapon system. Many of the details involved in this system, in my experience, are not adequately explained by the in-game tutorial, leaving a number of fundamental questions unanswered for both new and old players. My own search for answers had me scouring the internet for information, so here are my efforts to compile my findings and the results of some basic in-game tests.

We gained access to the new Multi-weapon system with the release of New Genesis (NGS), which expanded the game’s weapon upgrade options.

What is a multi-weapon?

A multi-weapon is made up of two different types of weapons that your character can switch between in a single Weapon Palette. Because your character can switch between these two weapon types, each weapon type can be referred to as a different “mode” for the multi-weapon.

How can I make a multi-weapon?

The development of multi-weapons is restricted to the main story’s quest progression. Following your return from the Vanford Laboratory Ruins, you will be given a quest in which you will be given the resources (but not the weapons) to craft a 1 * rare multi-weapon with the Item Lab Enhancement Technician.

What are the pros and cons of using a multi-weapon?

Pros:

  • It enables the use of two different weapons’ weapon attacks, weapon actions, and weapon Photon Arts (PAs) within a single Weapon Palette (reducing time delays in swapping between them).
  • It cuts the resources required to enhance them (excluding limit breaking), adds augments, and unlock potential in half (relative to two separate weapons).
  • When compared to using two separate weapons, this saves you an inventory slot (whoa…huge)

Cons:

  • It necessitates an initial investment in Photon Quartz and N-Meseta.
  • Is restricted to weapons from the same weapon series (e.g. Primm, Tzvia, Resurgir, etc.)

Crafting a Multi-Weapon

To make a multi-weapon, you’ll need two NGS weapons from the same series, 10 Photon Quartz per rarity level, and 50,000 N-Meseta. The name, enhancement level, augments, potential, and damage type (melee, ranged, technique) of the base weapon (the first of two weapons chosen) will be applied to the multi-weapon. To locate Photon Quartz (or any other resource) nodes, use Kosnag’s map.

It should be noted that the Silver Primm and Gold Primm weapon series differ from the single Primm.

Aside from aesthetics, it is recommended that Silver Primm and Gold Primm be used as weapon enhancement fodder rather than combat weapons.

Limit breaking (increasing the maximum enhancement level) will require more N-Meseta than a single weapon of the same rarity. Furthermore, limit breaking a multi-weapon will require a similar quantity [as tested on 1 * rarity alone for the time being], but one tier of material higher (Monotite > Dualomite > Trinite) than a single weapon of the same rarity.

Identifying a Multi-Weapon

In both the inventory menu and item details, multi-weapons are labeled with the two-weapon types used to create them (shown below).

Using a Multi-Weapon

Which classes can use a particular multi-weapon?

A multi-weapon can be wielded by any class combination, including a main class or sub-class that can wield one of the two weapons that make up the multi-weapon. So, for example, if you made a multi-weapon out of a sword and a rod, you could use it as long as your main or sub-class was Hunter or Force. It should be noted, however, that the PAs of a specific weapon are linked to the class with which it is associated. So, for example, if you use a Sword/Rod (base/sub) multi-weapon on a Force/Fighter (main/sub) loadout, you won’t be able to use Sword PAs.

How do I switch “modes” while using a multi-weapon?

You can change your multi-mode weapons by using a weapon attack, weapon action, or weapon PA associated with that weapon type. Using the Sword/Rod multi-weapon example again, you could bind the Rod weapon attack to your Weapon Palette and use it to switch to Rod mode.

Why would I want to switch modes, except to use a given action?

Photon Blast does not yet have a weapon-specific palette option. So, if you want to use a specific weapon’s Photon Blast, you must first ensure that your character is in the appropriate weapon mode at the time the Photon Blast is used. In addition, the built-in weapon action keybind (separate from the palettes) is based on your current weapon mode.

It’s worth noting that Simplified Movement suffers from the same lack of weapon-specific palette options. However, regardless of the mode, your multi-weapon is in, it will return to the base weapon mode. So, in the Sword/Rod example, using Simplified Movement would limit sword attacks to only sword attacks.
