Our Verdict

We purchased and tested the Clarifion DSTx Portable Air Purifier, advertised as an affordable and portable solution to reduce indoor odors. Its compact design, combined with ionization technology and a HEPA Carbon Filter, promises that the air you breathe will be clean and fresh. In our tests, the Clarifion DSTx did good in small areas, up to 150 sq ft or close to the source of a smell such as a kitty litter box or trash can. But it’s loud on the high fan setting, and some users have complained that this has ruined their electrical outlets.

Clarifion DSTx Air Purifier: An In-Depth Review

In today’s world, where air quality is a significant concern, the need for efficient air purifiers has never been more pressing. The Clarifion DSTx Portable Air Purifier, as presented on the official Clarifion website, promises to be a reliable solution in this domain. Let’s explore its features, benefits, and how it distinguishes itself from other products in the market.

The Clarifion DSTx Filters play a crucial role in ensuring that the DSTx air purifier operates at peak efficiency. With a combination of HEPA and activated carbon, they offer comprehensive air purification, effectively tackling both particulate and gaseous contaminants. Regular replacement ensures that users can consistently enjoy clean, fresh air in their living spaces.

    Features and Benefits

    1. Ionization Technology: The DSTx combines negative ion technology with a HEPA Carbon Filter. This dual mechanism ensures that the air is free from both large and microscopic contaminants.
    2. HEPA and Activated Carbon Filter: The HEPA filter targets dust, smoke, and pet dander, while the activated carbon layer addresses household odors.
    3. User-friendly Design: The DSTx is plug-and-play. Simply plug it into any standard outlet, and it begins its purification process. Additionally, it operates quietly, ensuring minimal disturbance.
    4. Versatility: The DSTx is versatile but with a small range of 150sq ft, it should be used very small areas like bathrooms or offices, or close to the source of a smell like near a garbage can or kitty litter box. It’s not ideal for large rooms like living rooms.

    Our Experience Testing Clarifion DSTx

The biggest concern that came out of testing the Clarifion DSTx was the noise. It’s easy to turn on and get started. We ran it for a full 24 hours in a small office before evaluating it. Overall, the air seemed somewhat cleaner, but this is subjective. The air quality monitor we used didn’t register a significant change.

We used a decibel meter to test the noise output at each level. The low fan level produced 38.5 decibels, and the high fan level produced 56.2 decibels. Both are higher than the manufacturers advertised levels. The low fan setting is fine and you can hardly hear it, but the high fan level emits a high-pitched noise from the high speed of the fan, which could be heard in other rooms of the house. It’s very distracting at the high level, but it may be necessary to run it on high to get the desired cleaning. Our recommendation is to try running it on low if you spend a lot of time near it, and switch it to high when you’re away.

To better understand the correlation between noise and efficiency, read our article here. You can easily see that the Clarifion DSTx noise levels fall right in line with most of the other full-size air purifiers. The difference is that full-sized air purifiers can solve more air quality concerns, cover larger areas, and may last longer with a lower lifetime cost. But if you are looking for odor elimination in a small corner, the discreet Clarifion DSTx could be a good option.

    Overview of Clarifion DSTx Filters

Clarifion offers the DSTx Filters as an essential component of their DSTx air purifier. These filters play a pivotal role in ensuring that the air you breathe is free from contaminants. The Clarifion DSTx Filters are specifically designed for the Clarifion DSTx air purifier. They combine the power of activated carbon with high-efficiency HEPA filtration to ensure comprehensive air purification.

    Key Filter Features

    • HEPA + Activated Carbon Filter: The DSTx filters utilize a combination of HEPA and activated carbon. While the HEPA component traps at least 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns in diameter, the activated carbon targets odors and gaseous pollutants.
    • Simple Replacement Design: The filters are designed for easy replacement. Users can effortlessly pop out the old filter and replace it with a new one in just seconds.
    • Filter Subscription: Clarifion offers a subscription club that ensures timely delivery of replacement filters, ensuring that users always have fresh filters on hand.
    • Exclusivity: These filters are made exclusively for the Clarifion DSTx air purifier.
    • Price: The regular price of the DSTx Filters is $36.97, but they are currently on sale for $24.97.

    Filter Maintenance and Replacement

    • Frequency: For optimal performance, it’s recommended to replace the DSTx filter every 3-6 months. Factors such as air quality, the presence of pets, and individual needs (like allergies) can influence the exact replacement frequency. For instance, those with allergies might consider changing the filter every 30-60 days.
    • Replacement Process: To replace the filter, users should first remove the plastic front cover from the DSTx device. The old filter can then be pulled out, discarded, and replaced with a new one.
    • Cleaning: It’s essential to note that these filters should not be washed. When it’s time for a new filter, users should discard the old one and replace it with a fresh filter.

Total Lifetime Cost Over 5 Years

Assuming a user replaces the filter every 4 months (which is the average of 3-6 months), they would need three filters per year. Over 5 years, that’s 15 filters. At the current sale price of $24.97 per filter, the total cost for filters over 5 years would be $374.55. Adding the cost of the DSTx air purifier and filters is a total lifetime cost over 5 years of $414.54.

How to Use the Clarifion DSTx

    1. Plug the device into a standard outlet.
    2. The device starts working immediately, releasing negative ions and filtering the air through its HEPA Carbon Filter.
    3. For best results, it’s recommended to use at least one DSTx in major rooms like the bedroom, bathroom, dining room, living room, and kitchen.
